Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga – Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is currently seeking feedback on the topic of the 2025 Long-term Insights Briefing. The proposed topic is “the opportunities and impacts associated with the trend towards residential high-rise housing”.
The briefing, due for completion by the end of June 2025 proposes to examine past and forecast future trends in high-rise residential builds, impacts of high-rise residential builds in relation to housing supply, affordability and meeting the needs of residents and households and the urban development impact.
With the global trend towards building high-rise housing this is a topic of contemporary relevance and will help provide a basis for potential future planning and decision making.
Long-term Insights Briefings are a requirement under the Public Service Act 2020, to be completed at least every three years, independent of Ministers. Topics are expected to help agencies build their capability for providing analysis on long-term trends that might affect Aotearoa New Zealand in some way.
We are keen to hear your views on the proposed topic. Feedback can be sent until 5pm on Tuesday 5 November 2024 to LTIB@hud.govt.nz. Submissions will be considered, and the final topic will be confirmed later this year.
