About the Te Whare Hīnātore project

Auckland City Mission, with funding and support from Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga – Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), delivers Te Whare Hīnātore, a transitional housing initiative that aims to enhance the Hauora, or wellbeing, of wāhine experiencing housing insecurity and homelessness.  While Auckland City Mission provides oversight, it is tangata-whenua led and delivers a kaupapa Māori approach with a marae model of care.

About the review report

HUD contracted Pūrangakura Ltd to carry out a review of Te Whare Hīnātore. The review focused on the needs and aspirations of wāhine in transitional housing accommodation. The aim is to better understand their lived experiences, stories, and the intergenerational implications of this service for whānau.

This report contributes to our understanding of community-led housing projects in tackling homelessness.
