Financing for Social Housing
Published 05 Aug 24
Solving New Zealand’s fundamental housing lack of supply is a top priority for the Government. As part of this, the Government is interested in supporting better ways to finance social housing provided by Community Housing Providers (CHPs).
Te Tuapapa Kura Kainga – Ministry of Housing and Urban Development – is leading a Request for Information (RFI) process to hear from the finance sector on ways to improve financing for social housing. The RFI is focused on social housing delivered by registered CHPs, funded through Income Related Rent Subsidy (IRRS).
It is an opportunity to improve the value for money New Zealanders get for their investment. A number of ideas have already been proactively put forward by the finance sector, and the RFI process will help formally gather more views and ideas for the Government to consider.
The Request for Information period will close on 30 August.
If you or your organisation has a contribution to make or you want to find out more about making a submission, visit the GETS page: Social Housing Finance(external link)
If you prefer to receive the RFI directly (rather than via GETS), please contact SHFinance@hud.govt.nz to request the materials via email.
